Big Read 2012

Returning for the fifth year Newport Libraries Big Read is a celebration of reading and writing for all the family.

This year 18 authors, illustrators and storytellers are brought together at one day-long event in the Newport Centre 1 Kingsway, Newport, South Wales NP20 1UH.

Adult sessions
Speakers include best selling author Chrissie Manby, Gold Dagger award-winning crime novelist Belinda Bauer, historical novelist James Aitcheson, and Arthur C Clarke award-shortlisted sci-fi writer Alastair Reynolds.

Children
Children and families will be entertained by award winning authors, poets, storytellers and illustrators including Joseph Theobold, author and illustrator of Marvin the Sheep Who Wanted More, football fanatic Tom Palmer and Malcolm Rose, author of action-packed science-based thrillers including the Jordan Stryker series.

Welsh
Bethan Gwanas will be hosting Welsh language sessions for children, learners and fluent Welsh speakers.

Storytelling
This year's opening and closing storytelling event will be performed by Guto Dafis one of Wales' foremost storytellers.

NEW for this year an evening event - Author and raconteur Simon Brett will entertain with recollections of his life as an author and working in radio to bring the day to a close.
